2014. Embracing the Present: Contemporary Mexican Art exhibition, Tin Tabernacle gallery, London
In 2014, a London gallery refused to include this piece as part of an exhibition of contemporary Mexican artists because it felt the nude was inappropriate and didn’t approve of its political nature. The curator invited the Mexican artist to exhibit a different artwork but he refused.
Yoshua Okón (Mexico City, 1970) is a multidisciplinary artist who works with video installation and performance and addresses the discomforts of consumer society, using satire as a tool to engage the viewer. He founded the SOMA artists’ platform in 2009 and has had solo exhibitions in institutions around the world.
