In 2016, the Galería Fernando Pradilla in Madrid was graffitied on and received complaints and threats of aggression against the artwork. That same year, the Spanish ambassador to Rome prevented the piece from forming part of an exhibition of the artist’s work at the Real Academia de España in the city.
Juan Francisco Casas (La Carolina, 1976) is one of the world’s leading specialists in realistic pen illustration. His portraits question the representation of women in art. He has suffered censorship on social media, including Instagram and Facebook. He represented Spain at the second Prague Biennale and received the Premio ABC for painting.
