The mayor of Middelkerke, Belgium, banned the exhibition of this artwork in 2006 for fear of offending Muslims and putting off tourists. The mass demonstrations following the Muhammad cartoons were still recent.
David Černý (Prague, 1967) is one of the Czech Republic’s best-known and most provocative artists, famous for his large-scale sculptures on controversial themes. Much of his work can be seen in public spaces in Prague.
